The Sports Union of Slovenia is a national sports organization, which unites numerous Slovene sports clubs and societies dealing with sport and recreation and physical education. A wide choice of different sport interests, which the Union combines, dictates a well considered and harmonized operation, which is what the management especially strives for.

Its aim is to become a recognizable, eco-friendly, autonomous and competitive sports organization, and the Union does well at achieving this. By acting responsibly and knowing how important sport is for a healthy and happy life, the Union enthusiastically develops new sports programmes and promotes sport as a health-friendly and eco-friendly activity. It strives for sport to become everyone’s right, irrespective of their age, gender and social status. The central form of and approach to its work is social management and a responsible realization of sports and business goals. Among the key goals of the Union as a non-profit organization are the uniting, combining and supporting of sports clubs, as well as informing the public about sports and physical education, exchanging experience and examples of good practice among its members and cooperating with relevant Slovene, foreign and international federations and organizations. The Union will continue to meet new challenges responsibly and respond to them in accordance with the tradition and the vision of its development. Within the framework of its work it carries out different projects and activities. The common goal is the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and active use of leisure time. It also plans the development of a network of sports houses, which are supposed to become lifelong centres of sport for all.

Among the most important tasks of further development of sport and recreation, public awareness of falls and recreational sporting event participants on the application of sustainable development and concern for nature conservation organizations in the sports and recreation events. Sports Union of Slovenia seeks to accelerate the reduction of overburdening of nature and environmental pollution in the area of sports tourism, sports recreation and sports in general and within the project ECO -FRIENDLY SPORTS. Furthermore the Union has become an important partner in making the policy of sport for all in the European Union and a supporter of the development of sport for all in Southeastern Europe.

Organizational structure of the union operates in two main fields of activities and administration: one part is profitable and the other one is unprofitable. Our principal direction is planning and performing of programs intended for the efficient support of the members of Sport Union of Slovenia and for which the financial funds are granted. Additional activity is planning and performing of programs, which are in Slovenian public and national interest and are financed out of public funds, i.e. public competitions of different Ministries and other foundations or financial resources. Profitable activity supports the implementation of Union's key mission, which is, as already mentioned, efficient support of our members.
